M33&1, Metafora's 2009 Winter Exhibition, was held last December 11. Lots of new and familiar faces made our night. It was lovely and well-attended evening -- a great way to end the year! We hope to see you at our next exhibition!

World AIDS Day 2009

1 December 2009. Photos of students' works from the AIDS exhibition at Ambit Dona were featured in a tent at Placa Universitat to help raise HIV/AIDS awareness.

Conocer Antes Juzgar (Know before You Judge): HIV/AIDS Exhibition

November 26, 2009. Conocer Antes Juzgar (Know Before You Judge), a collective exhibition by students from the International Workshop, opened at Ambit Dona, St. Rafael 15, Barcelona. This is an annual event, the fruit of Metàfora's collaboration with Comité 1er de Desembre as part of the events organised around the World Aids Day. On exhibit are works of international students Anat Weiger (Israel, France), Desiree Haupts (Switzerland), Alejandro Jose Calvo Cruz (Colombia), Alisa Margolies (USA), Anna Yates (USA), Natalie Claire Cole (Canada), Suzanne Torres (USA), Jessica Hirst (USA) and Catherine Young (Philippines).

Untitled BCN 2009: Whiter Shades of Pale



November 21, 2009 (BCN) Some international students exhibit their works at the annual Untitled BCN at Calle Topazi, 14. In this collective exhibit are the works of Anat Weiger (Israel, France), Lauren Shaw (USA), Casey Stanberry (USA), Sue Storry (Australia), Fatema Abdoolcarim (Hong Kong), Joachim Castaneda (USA), Floor Grootenhuis (Kenya, Holland), Jemma Johnson (UK), Jessica Hirst (USA), Axel Breschensbauer (Sweden), Adelheid de Witte (Belgium) and Maria del Carmen Vivas (Ecuador).



The exhibit runs until December 2, so be sure to check it out!

Ephemeral Urban Intervention: Dutch students experience a slice of Barcelona

From November 13 to 17, a group of second year students of ABK Maastricht visited Barcelona to execute an ephemeral urban intervention in the city. Led by art critic and professor Jeffrey Swartz, the project kicked off with a session on Barcelona history, urban identity, and ideas of urban intervention. Groups of students were then assigned the Plaça Sant Felip Neri, Estació de França, Mercat de Santa Caterina, Rambla del Raval, and Els Encants. The students then presented their work to Metafora. Here are some of their pieces:
